As surprising as it might seem, you may have undiscovered talents and unknown abilities that can awaken, inspire, and empower you to live a brighter life!
When is the last time you took a pencil in your hand and drew a flower, the face of your child, or drew a copy of a picture of an angel? When did you play with crayons or clay, build a castle of sand on a beach, collected colored stones, and then polished them? Have you recently baked a cake or cookies? Have you planted flowers in the garden? What are your undiscovered talents?
The last time I had done any drawing was when I was about seven years old, and I still have a pencil picture of my little brother when he was three. There was certainly no time to play with art as school days and then work rolled on and on. Over seventy years had gone by when I once again thought about drawing and painting.
It Was Surprised to Learn I Had Undiscovered Talent

I was still working as a marketing consultant at 71 in 2015. One day I was shopping at Costco and noticed a portable easel set that fit into a small wooden suitcase. It was so cute, and it seemed reasonable at $25.00. So, I bought it and went to an art store to purchase oil paint, brushes, and a book on oil painting.
For my first painting, I copied a photo of a vineyard with rolling hills behind it. I was surprised to discover how fun, engaging, and rewarding it felt to paint. Surprisingly, I received compliments from friends, and I decided to keep going. I had found one of my undiscovered talents!
The Next Painting Seemed to Flow…

The next painting was copied from a photo of a lotus blossom in a pond at the Mission of San Juan Capistrano. My partner and a professional artist, John Teressi, pointed out that I had painted a chrysanthemum rather than a lotus blossom. I quickly changed the design of the flower and happily met his approval.

Mystical Island at Sunset
“Mystical Island at Sunset” was a labor of love. It reminded me of the Isle of Crete, where I had experienced a mystical moment.
The memorable, mystical experience happened when I was twenty-three years old and traveled to Crete from Athens. I watched the blazing sunset over the ocean as the warm Mediterranean water rolled over my body. The full moon rose like the story of Apollo in his chariot, soaring over the mountains. I thought this would be a perfect time to get answers to all my questions about life.
A soft breeze caressed my face. I realized no question entered my mind as I rested in total peace. I return there whenever life becomes overwhelming.
When the Painting Was Finished, John said, “You’ve Got Talent!”
John then said he would buy me a real easel, canvases, and paint and offered to be my mentor as I went forward in my creative adventure. I felt excited and also a little fearful. Could I continue to make beautiful paintings? Would my unknown abilities continue to support my endeavors?
Capturing the Face, Hands, and Proportions Is Truly a Challenge!

Next, John suggested I paint a figure, resulting in The Woman Contemplating Life painting. As I drew the face and figure, I realized how much we don’t normally see. We ignore the placement of features. The shapes of the ears and the size of the head compared to the body is usually not within our awareness. When drawing and painting, you become more aware of what is around you.
Note: I would truly recommend it is time to let messages on your smartphone wait and give yourself the gift of discovering your hidden talents.
You will find it fascinating to take the time to draw and use watercolor, acrylic, or oil paint to create a beautiful picture. You will begin to see details distinctly and learn to pay more attention to nature and the people around you and thus will create a closer connection with life. You will begin to look deeper for your surprising creative talents!
There are Many Ways to Use Your Talents…
There are many ways to be creative, including the endless creativity we use to design our lives. Our beliefs and thoughts magnetize events and people who play in the grand drama unfolding before us. We don’t even need to be aware of our undiscovered talents as we create the designs and patterns of our lives.
